The benefits of using LED beauty tools for the skin.

LED Face Mask - Skin Artisan
Once reserved as a clinic-only treatment, LED light therapy is becoming much more accessible for use at home. So, what are the benefits of LED for skin?
LED light therapy uses LED light waves to stimulate the skin. It has anti-aging properties, reduces inflammation, and can even help to treat acne. The treatment is painless and doesn’t burn or harm the skin. People who use LED light therapy can see results such as increased collagen levels, evened skin tone, and lessened skin issues.
Keep reading to learn more about the different types of LED light therapy, and some at-home solutions.

What is LED Light Therapy?
LED light therapy uses various wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin’s layers. There are different colors of LED light, each of which is able to reach a different layer of the skin to provide different effects depending upon the care needed.
Red LED Light
Red LED light is the most common type of light used in LED light therapy. This color is primarily used to increase collagen levels in the top layers of the skin, which can help to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also helps in the reduction of inflammation, and increasing circulation.
Blue LED Light
Blue LED light is used to treat skin conditions such as acne. This is because blue light is able to reach the sebaceous glands found just underneath hair follicles. Sebaceous glands produce oil, and if they produce too much, it can lead to spots and conditions like acne.
The blue LED light inhibits the oil production of the sebaceous glands, reducing the symptoms of acne. It can also kill off some bacteria, which can help prevent and treat larger, more aggressive pimples.
Green and Yellow LED Light
Although less common than blue and red LED light therapy, green and yellow wavelengths can also be used to treat skin sensitivity, and even out the skin tone.

Who Can Use LED Light Therapy?
One of the great things about LED light therapy is that it is suitable for everyone, no matter their skin color, or the maturity of their skin.
It is much less invasive than other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as chemical peels or laser therapy, meaning that there is less chance of any pain or side effects post-treatment. LED light, especially blue and red light, also doesn’t contain any harmful UV rays which can damage the skin and increase cancer risk.
LED Skincare Devices
Although some estheticians offer LED light therapy in their practices, it’s also something that is rising in the home skincare market, making it accessible to anyone.
One of the most common ways to use LED light therapy at home is by purchasing an LED light mask. This means it can be easily incorporated into skincare routines and has the benefit of being hands-free so that the wearer can complete other tasks while the device is at work.
Other options include targeted handheld devices which can be used to focus on particular problem areas and standalone lamps that can be positioned on a vanity and shone over the face.
Care should always be taken when selecting an LED Skincare Product.
